The Story of Rice (Early 20th Chinese Folded Book with Hand Painted Illustrations) Publication Date: 1930

This is an early 20th century Chinese book with hand-painted illustrations that depicts a folk tale of the origin of rice The book has a fan binding with walnut wood covers. A Chinese "Foo" character carved into front board and painted green. The cover design history (the "Foo" character) is translated to English on the first page. Contains 10 hand painted watercolors, matted in silk. Each painting depicts farmers in the planting and harvesting of rice. Opposite pages have text in English & Chinese. No listing of publisher but evidently part of a series produced in 1930.
