it is a very old chinese folk story  麒麟送子 Uncle Liang He, the father of Confucius, was originally a boy with foot disease named Kong Pi. According to the etiquette system of the Zhou Dynasty, he lost his title and became a commoner. He could not undertake the sacrificial rites to offer sacrifices to his uncle Liang He. Therefore, Shu Lianghe married Yan Zhengzai in his later years and gave birth to his son Kongqiu, who was also Confucius. According to folklore, when Yan Zhengzai was pregnant, he dreamed that Qilin was spitting out a jade book at home while playing music, writing: "The son of Shuijing will be the king of the declining Zhou Dynasty." This means that this son is the son of Tianshui, the seed of a prince, and he will not be born. At that time, he could only be a king without a throne. Confucius was born the next day. This is the origin of the phrase "Qilin gives birth to a son". The Chinese people believe that Qilin is a beast of benevolence and righteousness and a symbol of good luck. People with good virtues pray to Qilin to give birth to children. The picture shows a unicorn carrying a boy holding a lotus root and a sheng in both hands, which is homophonic/has the same sound as to "the lotus (connected) sheng (gives birth to a noble son)".
